How to Connect TikTok Shop GMV to Power BI
Learn the three ways to connect TikTok Shop GMV to Power BI: manual CSV export, a connector if available, or an API pipeline. Step-by-step guide for sellers and operators.
You connect TikTok Shop GMV to Power BI in three ways: export data from Seller Center and import it, use a connector that pulls TikTok Shop data if one is available, or build a pipeline reading the TikTok Shop Open Platform API into a database Power BI can read. Manual export is fastest; the API route keeps itself updated.
GMV means gross merchandise value: the total value of orders before refunds, shipping or tax. For a longer explanation, read what GMV is on TikTok Shop.
How do you connect TikTok Shop GMV to Power BI?
Here are the three routes I use, in order of setup effort.
| Method | Setup effort | Stays updated | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manual CSV export | Low, a few minutes each time | No, you repeat it | One-off reports and quick checks |
| Connector | Medium, depends on the connector | Yes, if the connector schedules refreshes | Non-technical sellers who want a simple integration |
| API pipeline | High, some code or tools needed | Yes, if you schedule it | Teams that need historical and near real-time data |
The manual export and the connector both work without code. The API pipeline needs code or a tool that does the code for you. I start with the manual export for a small shop, then move to a pipeline when the report has to update itself.
Method 1: Export from Seller Center and import into Power BI
- In Seller Center, open the report or order export page that contains GMV and order data. The exact path changes, so check the current Seller Center menu.
- Set the date range you want and export the file, usually a CSV.
- Open Power BI Desktop, click Get data, then Text/CSV, and choose the exported file.
- Check the preview, change column types if needed, and load it.
- Build a report or add the data to an existing model.
This is the quickest way to see TikTok Shop GMV in Power BI today. It is not automatic, so you repeat the export each time you want fresh numbers. I keep the CSV file in the same folder and overwrite it with the new export, so the Power BI file updates when I click Refresh.
Method 2: Use a connector if one is available
Some third-party tools act as connectors between TikTok Shop and Power BI. I cannot guarantee specific connectors because features and plans change, and I do not track every tool. Check the connector's own site for current TikTok Shop support. If a connector works, it may pull order and finance data into Power BI on a schedule.
To check:
- Search for a TikTok Shop to Power BI connector.
- Read the connector's own documentation for which data it can pull and how often it refreshes.
- Connect it to your TikTok Shop account using the permissions it asks for. Only approve the data it actually needs.
- In Power BI, connect to the data source the connector exposes, such as a database or an OData feed.
My honest take is that a connector is fine when it exists, but I prefer the manual export for small shops and an API pipeline for a shop that must report weekly without me touching it. A connector is the middle path when you want a refresh without writing code, and you are willing to trust a third party with read access to your shop data.
Method 3: Build an API pipeline
The TikTok Shop Open Platform API exposes order, product and finance data. You can build a small program that:
- Authenticates with the API through the TikTok Shop Partner Center docs, which I link in the resources below.
- Pulls order or finance data on a schedule.
- Writes the data into a database that Power BI can read, like PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Server.
- Refreshes Power BI from that database.
This route takes the most setup but removes the weekly copy-paste. I build these pipelines for the shops I run, and I test them in the TikTok Shop sandbox before they touch a live shop. If you do not code, you can use an integration platform that connects APIs to databases with a visual builder. Check each tool's own site for TikTok Shop support and pricing.
What data should you bring into Power BI first?
Start with GMV by day, orders, and refunds, because these answer the first question a brand asks: what sold and what came back. Once that works, add the dimensions that explain it.
- Order date and GMV amount
- Order status (paid, shipped, returned, cancelled)
- Product name or SKU
- Channel or content type if you want to split creator vs shop video vs live
- Creator name if you have affiliate sales
- Platform fees and estimated settlement if the export includes them (but check current rates in Seller Center)
I keep the first dashboard to one page: GMV, orders, refunds and top products. That matches the structure of my weekly report builder, which turns the same numbers into a one-page report. For the full weekly read of Seller Center analytics, see my guide on reading your TikTok Shop analytics each week.
Can Power BI pull TikTok Shop data automatically?
Power BI can refresh automatically only when it is connected to a data source that updates itself, like a database that a pipeline fills, or a connector that runs on a schedule. A one-time CSV export does not refresh on its own. To keep the dashboard current without manual work, build or buy one of the scheduled routes above.
How do you schedule refreshes in Power BI after the pipeline is built?
Once your pipeline writes to a database, you can schedule Power BI to read that database on a timer.
- Publish your Power BI report to the Power BI service.
- In the service, find the dataset settings.
- Set a scheduled refresh, such as daily or twice a day.
- Enter the database credentials if Power BI needs them.
- Save the schedule and check that the refresh completes without errors.
For a connector, the refresh schedule is usually set inside the connector itself, and Power BI then reads the data source. For a manual CSV, there is no schedule because the file only changes when you export it again.
What are the most common problems connecting TikTok Shop GMV to Power BI?
This is where most people get stuck, and I have hit all of these at least once.
- Wrong date range. The export covers a different period than the dashboard, so the numbers look wrong. Check the date filter in both places.
- Column type mismatches. Power BI sees a number as text, so sums do not work. In the Power Query editor, change the column type to whole number or decimal.
- Duplicate rows. If you export overlapping periods, the same order may appear twice. Deduplicate by order ID before you load the data.
- Missing fields. Not every export includes creator name or channel. If a column is empty, check whether the data lives in a different report in Seller Center.
- API permissions. The TikTok Shop API needs the right permission scopes, and the app must be approved for those scopes. Test in the sandbox first.
- Connector limits. Some connectors pull only recent orders, or limit the date range. Read the connector's own documentation before you trust it for a full history.
Which official pages should you check?
TikTok Shop's rules and menus change often. For the current export steps and data definitions, read TikTok Shop Seller University. For the developer API, read the TikTok Shop Partner Center docs. I do not copy rates or steps here because they change without notice.
If your TikTok Shop data does not fit one of these routes, ask in the chat on this site. It is free. Tell me your situation, your shop, and what you tried, and I will point you to the path that fits.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I connect TikTok Shop GMV to Power BI?
- Export your GMV and order data from Seller Center as a CSV, then import that file into Power BI. For automatic updates, use a connector that supports TikTok Shop if one is available, or build a pipeline that reads the TikTok Shop Open Platform API into a database Power BI can read.
- Is there a direct TikTok Shop to Power BI connector?
- Some third-party connectors may offer this, but features and plans change. Check the connector's own site for current support, and confirm which TikTok Shop data it can pull and refresh on a schedule.
- What is the easiest way to see TikTok Shop GMV in Power BI?
- The easiest way is the manual CSV export from Seller Center. It gets you a dashboard today, but you must repeat the export every time you want fresh numbers.
- Can Power BI pull TikTok Shop data automatically?
- Yes, if you use a connector that refreshes on a schedule or an API pipeline that writes to a database Power BI reads. A one-time CSV export does not update itself.
- What GMV data should I bring into Power BI first?
- Start with GMV by day, orders, and refunds. Then add product name or SKU, channel, creator name if you have affiliate sales, and platform fees if the export includes them.
- Do I need to code to connect TikTok Shop GMV to Power BI?
- No, for the manual CSV export you do not need code. The API pipeline route requires some scripting or a tool that does it for you, but a connector can be a no-code option if one supports your needs.
